WWE Legend Reportedly Dead at 60
Wrestling Icon Sabu Passes Away at 60
The world of professional wrestling is mourning the loss of one of its most fearless and groundbreaking figures. Terry Brunk, best known by his ring name Sabu, has died at the age of 60. His passing was reported by PWInsider, though specific details surrounding the date and cause of death have not yet been disclosed.
Sabu earned legendary status in the 1990s through his daring performances in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). Known for his high-risk style and brutal matches involving barbed wire and tables, Sabu helped define the hardcore wrestling genre. His ECW career saw him capture multiple championships, including two reigns as ECW World Heavyweight Champion, a World Television Championship, three ECW Tag Team titles, and a run with the FTW Heavyweight Championship.
His popularity in ECW eventually led him to the WWE, where he competed with top-tier stars such as John Cena, Rey Mysterio, The Big Show, and longtime friend and rival Rob Van Dam. One of his most memorable WWE appearances was at WrestleMania 23, where he joined other ECW Originals—Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, and The Sandman—in a battle against the emerging New Breed faction.
Sabu also made appearances in other promotions, including TNA Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and remained active on the independent circuit until as recently as 2021. His final in-ring performance took place at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9, where he defeated Joey Janela in a “No Rope Barbed Wire” match—an appropriate send-off for a wrestler known for pushing the boundaries of pain and spectacle.
In tribute to Sabu, AEW issued a statement praising his legacy:
“AEW and the wrestling world mourns the passing of Sabu. From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave everything to professional wrestling. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.”
Fellow wrestler Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, also shared his condolences, calling Sabu “a true f—ing legend.”
Sabu’s legacy lives on through the countless wrestlers he inspired and the unforgettable moments he created in the ring. He leaves behind a career filled with innovation, intensity, and an unshakable passion for wrestling.
