Michelle Obama reveals how she and Barack handled rumors
Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States, continues to make headlines even after her husband, Barack Obama, completed his two terms in office. Recently, rumors about their relationship have resurfaced, sparking speculation about a possible divorce, with some even claiming that Barack had moved on.
Despite the ongoing gossip, Michelle has addressed these rumors head-on, offering insight into how she and Barack handle public speculation about their marriage. The couple, who have both faced intense media scrutiny during and after their time in the White House, are no strangers to navigating the challenges that come with being in the spotlight. Michelle recently shared her thoughts on how they stay strong and maintain their relationship amid the constant rumors, during an appearance on the podcast IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson.
She reflected on the negativity they endured throughout their time in office and beyond, saying, “People always ask me and Barack, how did we stay hopeful in, not just the eight years that we were in the White House, but beyond?” Michelle explained that they faced a lot of negative energy, including rumors and unfounded accusations, such as the false claim that Barack wasn’t born in the United States or that he hadn’t gotten into Harvard.
Despite the barrage of gossip, Michelle revealed the secret to their resilience: “What kept us sane — and we tried to instill this in our daughters — is, you cannot live through social media.” She emphasized that she has likely never looked at a comment section, advising others not to let negative energy seep into their lives. According to her, much of the criticism is baseless and made up, offering nothing of value. Instead of focusing on online opinions, she encouraged people to stay informed through more substantial content. “Staying informed has nothing to do with the comment section. It has everything to do with the content of the stories that you take in,” she said.
Michelle acknowledged the overwhelming presence of social media in today’s world, noting that many people feel trapped by it. She stressed the importance of broadening our information sources and stepping away from the constant cycle of social media. “We’ve got to broaden our spectrum, and we have to get off the phone,” she concluded.
Recently, Michelle and Barack have once again become the subject of rumors surrounding their marriage. Speculation about a potential divorce grew when Barack was seen attending events alone, including Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Trump’s 2025 inauguration. Some people jumped to conclusions, assuming this meant Michelle and Barack were no longer together. However, a source close to the family explained that Michelle had simply “checked out” of the political scene and was not attending public events as often as she had in the past.
Barack Obama also addressed the rumors with a heartfelt gesture, posting a touching birthday tribute to Michelle. He shared a photo of the two from Valentine’s Day, referring to her as the “love of [his] life.” This public display of affection was a reminder of their strong bond, with the couple having been married for over 30 years and raising their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23.
Through all the rumors and speculation, Michelle and Barack remain steadfast in their relationship, showing that despite the noise of social media and public opinion, their connection continues to thrive.
